ZV GUI Plugin trouble loading
when I start Zinc I get the error message "The ZV GUI Plugin is having trouble loading."
I have the latest graphics drivers installed for my card (GeForce 6600GT). I've tried the standalone and the firefox extensions and get the same message.
I tried using driver cleaner to clean out any old drivers and started fresh with the latest released drivers for my card and it still isn't working.
The error message "The ZV GUI Plugin is having trouble loading." means that OpenGL plugin dll couldn't be loaded. It is not a graphics driver issue, but is likely to be a software configuration issue (a dependency dll issue). Try uninstalling Zinc and reinstalling again.
Thanks for the help. I tried uninstalling / reinstalling and got the same message. During the installation it fails the open gl support and then gives a dialogue box that says "Zinc was unable to initialize openGL support for your grapics card. The most common solution is to update to the latest video drivers. See www.zeevee.com/video-drivers for more information."
When I try to run Zinc after that it goes through the video, but then gives the same error message I posted in the earlier post.
I tried uninstalling / reinstalling two more times with the same results.
Hi -- what OS and service pack are you running? I'd like to reproduce these issues here.
I enjoy online media from sites like Hulu and Netflix, so when one of my friends found a post about this program he quickly sent the link, knowing it looked like something I would be interested in.
I installed the stand alone version first and got the same error reported in this thread, so I followed the onscreen advice and updated my video driver to the latest version, which I must say was a total nightmare. It took several tries to get the new Catalyst drivers to actually install correctly and get the video driver and control panel to where it would even run. After 2 hours of frustration, the graphics drivers were ready to go and verified to be 100% working and tested for OPENGL compliance.
After all of that I still got the same error, so I figured it may be a software issue and decided to try the Firefox plug-in instead, but it displayed the exact same error message.
Then I thought, it may be a Vista issue, so I fired up a Virtual Machine with XP SP2 installed and had the program up and running perfectly in less then 2 minutes, even with the bogus virtual device driver used by a virtual machine.
This was quite annoying that I could use the program in a VM, but not on my real box, and the issue seemed to be related to the installed OS, so I tried one last thing and it worked perfectly the first time!
INSTALLED OS: Vista Ultimate 64
GPU: ATI RADEON HD 2600 512MB DDR2
SOLUTION: USE COMPATIBILITY MODE FOR XP SP2.
For the stand alone version of this program, right click on your desktop link and choose "Properties"
Now select the "Compatibility" tab on the top of the window.
Under "Compatibility Mode" check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
Then set the dropdown box for "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
That's it, your done..... enjoy the program. ;)
For Firefox, you cant adjust the plugin to run from compatibility mode, but you can set the Firefox browser to be run in compatibility mode which also solved the problem for me on this box.
GPU drivers should only be updated when a problem exists, don't just update them to have the latest version unless you have a reason for it. Most updates are to fix specific problems on certain hardware configurations, so if you don't have the error they are fixing, then you don't need to update your drivers.
Hope this helps someone, please report back if this corrects the issue for you so the programmers can work out a solution for users who are running Vista.
@ADMIN
Love the program so far....... how about adding support for local .flv and .mp3 files?
I am using XP S/P 2 and got the error on two separate computers, both running the latest Nvidia drivers. I chose compatibility mode for Win 2000 and it now works.
Obviously a Zinc problem.
Thanks.
i'll try the compatibility modes. right now i'm running XP SP3.
the Windows 2000 compatibility worked. Thanks a lot!
@admin
Since its not specific any one OS, it probably has more to do with how opengl is enumerated.
I tried all compatibility modes on this VISTA64 BOX, and everything above the 9x modes corrected the issue and allowed the ZV GUI Plugin to load which corrects the problem.
I don't know if this makes it easier to nail down the glitch or not, but if you need any specific debugging information or something tested, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
I tried all of the above and no luck. I posted another thread in using for OpenGL. Any ideas?
After downloading Zinc, I'm having trouble with Zinc GUI Plugin. I'm using a Mac OS X Version 10.5.8.
Thanks

I am having the same issue, using both the FF plugins and the standalone application. I have a Radeon HD 2600 XT and have installed the latest drivers.
