Application Tab Missing in Mac OS X Version
Hello,
I am looking for internet alternatives to DirecTV. I pretty much have settled on an HD antenna for live TV over the air local channels. I have spent the better part of the week researching what people are using to access TV content over the internet. After seeing several apps (Boxee, Miro, Plex, XBMC, Hulu, and Netflix) I came across Zinc and at first I thought it might be one of these internet scams. Glad to find out it was not, because it is an absolutely beautiful program for accessing internet content. Much improved over the above mentioned. The interface is really sweet and robust as it is built on Firefox which is the browser I use exclusively on the Mac.
So I noticed from the tutorials that you can link out to iTunes from Zinc. All of my personal content is in iTunes. However, the applications tab in the settings is not present in the Mac version of Zinc. Does anyone know why this is the case? Is it because it is still in beta development? When will final version be released for Mac? I really hope you guys continue to develop this app because it will save me $ by not having a satellite TV bill.
Cheers,
Matt
Very rarely, apparently! We decided to get out of the application-launcher business, so there won't be an applications tab in the Mac version (there probably won't be one in the PC version, either).
We can help you get set up with an alternate way to launch iTunes, though...what's your primary way of interacting with the computer? Media remote, keyboard, mouse?
Well I guess that is actually a smart move. If I want to watch something on iTunes then I will just launch iTunes.
I am currently using my macbook pro with an apple wireless keyboard and magic trackpad, but I will buy a new mac mini soon. However, it might be better to access Zinc with the apple remote (or something equivalent) to give it a true TV experience. However, I have to say that it is pretty cool to surf the internet from the couch.
My family has already ditched DirecTV. We couldn't justify 200 channels for $70/month when we were only watching 4 at the most. Now we have fewer commercials too. We now use a combination of Netflix, Hulu and Zinc.
